Caitlin Clark's Wayward Tee Shot Nearly Clips Fans at LPGA’s The Annika Pro-Am
Caitlin Clark may be a top-tier basketball shooter, but her golf game revealed a different side at LPGA’s The Annika Pro-Am.
On Wednesday at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, the WNBA Rookie of the Year stepped up to tee off—only to deliver a shot that veered sharply off course. The ball sliced straight into the crowd of onlookers, narrowly avoiding contact with fans. The Indiana Fever guard quickly offered a lighthearted apology, drawing laughs from the crowd.
Fore! tweeted Brentley Romine, along with a video that captured the errant shot skimming just above the heads of spectators. Another angle from TikTok showcased the close call, with fans humorously dubbing the scene “not your typical Caitlin Clark courtside seats.”
Remarkably, no one was injured, though the irony wasn’t lost on Clark, who had jokingly set her single goal for the event: avoid hitting anyone. It seems she achieved her aim—just barely.
Despite the mishap, Clark demonstrated skill throughout the round, sinking impressive shots, showing finesse with approach shots, and skillfully wielding her putter. She had the unique opportunity to play with world No. 1 Nelly Korda on the front nine and then joined World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam on the back nine.
Reflecting on the day, Clark described it as “definitely a fun morning,” adding, “Very lucky and fortunate. Hung in there; did all right. It was a good day.”
