Dave Coulier Reveals Cancer Diagnosis to ‘Full House’ Family Through Group Text
Dave Coulier is experiencing an outpouring of love and support from his former Full House castmates after informing them of his recent cancer diagnosis.
“I didn’t want them to hear it through anyone else, so I sent a text message,” said Coulier, 65, in an interview with People on Wednesday, November 13.
The actor, best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on Full House from 1987 to 1995 and his appearances on Fuller House, shared that his TV family’s response was instant and deeply supportive.
“It was this flood of, ‘Just say the word. We’re here for you anytime. You’re in great hands with [wife Melissa Bring], but what else can we do?’” Coulier recounted. “The love we share for one another is overwhelming. We’ve supported each other for so many years, and it’s truly extraordinary.”
The close-knit cast has faced loss before. Bob Saget, who played the beloved Danny Tanner, passed away at 65 in 2022—a tragedy that only strengthened their bond.
“We cherish our time together and truly value life,” Coulier reflected. “With them, it’s all laughter and positivity, and we’re grateful for each other and for every shared moment. It’s a group full of good memories.”
John Stamos, who portrayed Uncle Jesse, is planning a visit to Coulier later this week as he begins chemotherapy.
“He told me, ‘If you want to sleep, I’ll sit by you. If you want music or just want to chat, I’m there,’” Coulier shared. “That’s real brotherhood—that’s family.”
Coulier received his stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in October, after a respiratory infection led to severe lymph node swelling. Subsequent biopsies and PET and CT scans confirmed an aggressive form of cancer.
“I went from thinking I had a simple head cold to a cancer diagnosis, and it’s been overwhelming,” he admitted. “It’s been a fast-paced, intense journey.”
Amid his battle, Coulier received positive news: the cancer had not spread to his bone marrow.
“That day, my chances for a cure jumped to nearly 90 percent,” he explained. “It was a huge relief.”
Determined to keep fighting, Coulier is drawing strength not only for himself but for his wife, Melissa, whom he married in 2014.
“I’m going to stay strong, not just for myself, but for her,” he said.
The comedian, who shares son Luc, 33, with ex-wife Jayne Modean, is also looking forward to the future, as Luc and his wife, Alex, are expecting a baby boy in March.
“I have to teach my grandson how to play hockey,” Coulier smiled.
