Tesla Cybertruck Earns Sixth Recall This Year Thanks to Faulty Inverters

Tesla is issuing its sixth recall of the year for the Cybertruck EV, this time due to a potential failure in the drive inverter. This malfunction could lead to a complete loss of torque and propulsion, posing a significant safety risk. The recall affects over 2,400 units of the electric pickup truck, which began production in late 2023. Here’s a breakdown of the situation.

The Tesla Cybertruck has faced a series of challenges since its launch, with recalls throughout 2024 for various issues. These include problems with the font size on warning lights, unintended acceleration caused by a possibly trapped pedal, a defective front wiper blade, truck bed trim that might detach, and a malfunction where the rear camera fails to display.

The latest recall, however, presents a more serious danger: a faulty inverter could cause the truck to lose torque when the accelerator is pressed, effectively stopping the vehicle from moving and increasing the risk of a collision.

According to Tesla, 2,431 vehicles, produced between November 2023 and July 2024, may be affected by this issue. While the total number of Cybertrucks manufactured remains unclear, the previous recall impacted nearly 27,000 units.

Therefore, this new recall likely involves only a small fraction of the total production. Tesla plans to address the issue by replacing the faulty inverter units at no cost to owners, ensuring that the affected vehicles are fully repaired and safe to drive.
